About Media
Scriptwriting
Gerry Lavery specialises in writing drama with comedic elements. Gerry is a dedicated college communications instructor with a lifelong interest in understanding storytelling. The idea of story has been forefront in Gerry’s professional and academic careers and to that end he has studied texts from Aristotle’s “Poetics” to most recently, neuroscientist William Storr’s “The Science of Storytelling”, employing insights and strategies learned along the way. In practice, Gerry’s writing creates authentic characters and compelling narratives realising audience engagement through empathy and immersion. As an artist in many media, Gerry’s work benefits from considering all the senses to bring vicarious experiences to his audience.
Having completed the post graduate Scriptwriting program at Algonquin College, Gerry has formalised his writing for stage, film, and web understanding the nuances of story delivery through these visual and aural media.
Gerry has written for Algonquin College’s Gonq show and has interned as an Assistant Director for Fireside Pictures and for independent short film productions.
